Valentines Day Flowers Are a Work of Art

January 26th, 2012

When one thinks of valentines days flowers, a vision of elegant, ornamental arrangement in a nice wrapping with a lovely card comes to mind. A lot of us don’t realize the effort that goes into making this lovely arrangement, however. To the florist, a bouquet of valentines day flowers is not just another product they sell but can actually be considered as a work of art. Creating beautiful arrangements for valentines day can be a nice thing to do especially if you have loved ones in mind to share it with. One of the most romantic gestures you can show is to show up on valentines day with a flower arrangement uniquely designed for the person you love. Don’t just stick with roses as many are inclined to expect this and won’t really have any true emotional value because your loved one will think it impersonal. Find valentines day flowers which you feel embodies their spirit and use that as an inspiration for your arrangement.

Making the Best of Your Push Lawn Mower

January 4th, 2012

A malfunctioning lawn mower is not only a hassle, it’s a headache too, and makes it essential that you know a little about lawn mower repair. So whatever the problem, loss of power or lowered performance, the correct repair knowledge is important in ensuring that you have a unit that is capable of doing its job. The fact is that most times a lawn mower shows up at a repair shop and the repair task could have been handled by just performing a few tasks first at home. Performing lawn mower repairs may be as simple as checking the spark plug. A damaged plug prevents the unit from starting and replacing the plug is simple once you follow the user guidelines. If your plug is in working order the next thing that you will need to do is check your air and oil filters. It’s always best to replace these before they become overly clogged as they can cause other problems to occur during your repairs.

I Am Expanding My Gardening Operation

September 29th, 2011

I just lucked into a little chance to add onto my gardening operation. I have a small greenhouse now, and a couple of cold frames where I give my vegetables a head start on the growing season. However I just lucked into a pair of lean to greenhouses in kit form. I was visiting a friend of mine to help him with a little job, but he was late and I noticed that they were having a yard sale across the street. Actually it was an estate sale and later I learned that the old man had probably committed suicide rather than face more chemotherapy. At any rate he had a very little garden and I got a lot of stuff at a very low price. I would have loved to have gotten hold of his greenhouses, he had two of them and they were rather nice with each about 20 foot by 8 foot in size.

Finally Letting My Green Thumb Have Full Play

September 22nd, 2011

I’ve always wanted to install a greenhouse in my backyard, mainly due to my love of fresh vegetables year round, but work and other pressing concerns kept me from following through with my plans until I retired about a year ago. It took some convincing with the wife, but I was finally able to get online and look for USA Greenhouses for Sale with the view to buying one and getting those veggies going. I had to cough up some space to grow flowers for my wife, but that’s a small price to pay for growing what you want in the cold months. After getting the structure set up and operating correctly, I learned that I needed some other equipment to make the whole thing work properly. Not to worry, however, as I was able to procure the equipment from the same site that sold me the greenhouse. I can’t wait to see the fruits of my labor!

I Think It Will Be Fun!

September 4th, 2011

I think that it will definitely be fun if my brother and I start our own little hydroponics garden. There is a little Rancho cucamonga hydro store nearby where we can buy supplies. I don’t think that it has to be big. I just think that it has to be sufficient for our activities. I think that science has always been on my mind, and when I can turn my home into an exciting little laboratory, it always gets me a bit enthusiastic! I know that there are so many plants that I am waiting to grow, and I want to do this correctly. It is really an interesting concept when you have the plants growing in a water medium. I think that it makes sense too. I know that science has really propelled humankind into greatness, and this is one of the things that just proves that this is true. It makes me quite happy to be able to experiment with something like this.

Inexpensive Indoor Gardening

July 2nd, 2011

Getting the materials ready for an inexpensive home gardening project is pretty straightforward. First things first, you need to get a cheap grow light. This is key because, unless you have a nice skylight that lets in a ton of natural sunlight, your plants are going to need it to grow. Next, all you need are some good size pots, soil and plant food. Now, to each their own, but I highly recommend going with organic soil and plant food, as it will really bring the life out of your vegetables and herbs, plus it will arguably be more healthy for you to put into your body. Remember that your vegetables are soaking up whatever is in that soil, so if you care about what ends up in your body, then go organic. That is whey they advise not planting vegetables in soil where your cats go to the bathroom, as it can make you sick.

No Reason Not to

June 24th, 2011

I live in a very tiny apartment and space is very precious. I am full time college student and protecting the environment is one of the things that I am passionate about. I really try to do my part every day and in any way that I can to try to make a difference in the overall picture. I knew that I needed and wanted recycling bins in my apartment but wasn’t sure about where they would fit in such a cramped space. I found the perfect solution here with 2 very slender, very space friendly bins that fit just wonderfully into the space I did have. It’s amazing how much these little bins can hold. I am so happy that even though my space is limited, I can still continue to live the way I was prior to moving here. I can recycle as I was accustomed to doing and having the means and receptacles necessary leave me no excuse not to.

Indoor Nurturing with Fluorescent Lights

June 21st, 2011

There are many benefits of using fluorescent grow lights in your indoor garden. You can have a look at the information http://fluorescentgrowlights.org of the site and find out the benefits of grow lights in the case of indoor planting. Using grow lights of various ratings, you can change the supply of heat and light for the plants at different growth levels. So, you can control the weather inside your home garden completely. You do not need to think of the rough weather and the change in seasons at all. You can grow plants throughout the year, even in the winter. The LED grow lights of various colors are also used for maintaining the spectrum and proper wavelength of the light necessary for the plants. The problem of using LED grow lights is the high installation costs. Its low depth of penetration does not maintain the proper environment for the natural growth of the plants in the indoor garden. So, LED grow lights are usually avoided and fluorescent grow lights are mostly used for growing plants in the indoor farm.

Protecting Our House from Japanese Knotweed

June 20th, 2011

We moved into a new house in the late fall. Along the side of the house there were a lot of tall dried canes that looked a bit like bamboo. I thought it was kind of ugly and had planned on digging it out this spring. I didnt realize, and apparently the inspector didnt realize either, that the plant is Japanese Knotweed. It is such an aggressive plant. Living right next to the house like that, the roots can dig into our house and cause a lot of damage. In some cases the shoots actually push out though the side of the house. Now we are very concerned. Our house is our largest investment and must be protected. We looked on the Internet for Japanese Knotweed Solutions. Japanese Knotweed is such a problem and the plant is so strong, that targeted, specialized treatments have been developed to kill it. We found a local company that will work with us to remove the plant and also survey the land for other Japanese knotweed plants we hadnt noticed.

Tiller Saftey Equipment and Operating Instructions

June 12th, 2011

Anytime working with machinery is required it is wise to wear safety clothing. While operating the rototiller wear boots and clothes that cover the entire body; gloves and safety glasses. Garden supply shops have a nice selection of gloves goggles and garden tools. Safety clothing is not mandatory but they may save you a lot of trash in your eyes, blistered hands, and a few scratches from flying debris.

Best results with rototiler rentals are possible when the soil is moist. Hard ground is very difficult to work and can be hard on small equipment. When rain has made the ground soft try working the soil with the tiller, mix the soil at least three times to break up any clumps in the soil. Good soil gives seeds a better chance of doing well during the growing season. Renting a tiller for a day is not that expensive. You can usually find them for rent for $40-$80 for a hole day. The time and back breaking labor you save will be well worth the investment you made.

Old Ballast Technology is Sometimes Best

June 3rd, 2011

Sometimes old technology is the best technology. This is true when it comes to indoor garden lighting. The old magnetic ballast designs work best in most scenarios. This is because these setups are simple and require less cost to start. Usually, the largest costs comes from the light system in a grow room. For most people, this cost can be prohibitive. This is why using a ballast which not only works but also costs less is the best option.

The old ballasts have a few drawbacks compared to newer digital ballasts. Normally, these drawbacks aren’t enough to justify the higher costs. The most common downside of a traditional ballast is the heat generated. This heat can be a problem in small enclosed spaces. When there is an inadequate ventilation system, the grow room can heat up causing undue stress for your plants. If this is your case, it is strongly recommended that you do not use these older ballasts.

My First Attempt at a Flower Garden Was a Huge Success

June 3rd, 2011

I live in the state of Texas where the weather changes almost daily. One day it will be 90 degrees and sunny and the next it could be 60 degrees and raining. For this reason I like to have temporary shelters like event tents and popup gazebos to keep some of my garden shaded on particularly hot days.

So with this in mind I wondered how successful I would be at planting some flowers in our empty flower boxes…Well they weren’t exactly empty at first, they were overgrown with weeds. So that was my first chore. I had to weed two very long, probably ten foot, flower boxes. After getting all the weeds out, I went and bought a ton of miracle grow and gardening soil and started filling up the boxes and planted the seeds. I had bought two boxes of seed mixtures and 8 packages of the prettiest flowers I could find (at Family Dollar) . I sprinkled the seeds, then poked them down the to right depth. Then I started watering them everyday and waiting. First I saw buds then I saw touches of color here and there. Now they are beautiful decorations of white, pink, red, orange and yellow.

Utilize the Lighting

May 25th, 2011

There is an importance to landscape lighting that is often overlooked. Having worked in landscaping for the past five years I often find that people are more concerned about how the types of flowers, or shrubs, or trees look in the daylight. Which is understandable as most people who observe another’s landscaping will view it when the sun is out. However, there is a subtle part to landscape lighting that should not be overlooked. Depending on how you cut your beds there is an arrangement of lighting that can provide a very mysterious quality to your landscaping. A quality that not only provides an atmosphere to your house at night, but also makes you stand out from your other neighbors who have simply just planted some trees and shrubs. It makes the difference from a good landscaping job to a great landscaping job all the more noticeable. If you haven’t thought about it, I highly recommend you do so.

I Have Been Trying to Improve My Lawn

May 7th, 2011

I have moved to a new area of the country and I really have no idea about how to properly take care of my lawn with this climate and this soil type. Thankfully, this lawn care blog that I have been reading has been giving me a lot of tips and pointers on how to get that green lawn that I used to have before I moved. It will take a little extra work and some repetition to get this lawn looking as great as it can but I am certainly up for the challenge. I have started to give some of my local friends some advice on their lawns based on what I have been reading from this blog. All of a sudden I have become somewhat of an expert without a whole lot of effort. I guess it is nice to be good at something and help people out.

Dealing with Subterranean Termites

April 19th, 2011

The most destructive kind of termite are subterranean termites. These termites are the biggest group of termites out of the several kinds. They live in underground cities which in some species, may have millions of individuals. These termites normally look very pale, almost white in colour, and this leads them to be often called white ants.

Some types of subterranean termites are infamous for being building destroyers. In America, the most infamous type is the Eastern Subterranean Termite. These termites can damage homes in short order.

The most common treatment method in case of an active infestation is to pump insecticide into holes drilled in the walls and floor. The insecticide is fast acting and normally will halt the infestation by killing some termites and driving the rest away.

Nonetheless, such insecticide is bad for the environment, and should only be deployed by trained termite control experts, because of the danger of contaminating underground water sources and poisoning the ecology.

March 25th, 2011

The Weber Q200 is a beautiful mesh of the components of technology and ingenuity. After all Weber is America’s most trusted brand of barbecue grills. This is a great grill from Weber. Food grilled on this grill tastes absolutely delicious, provided that you don’t burn it. Good investments for your Weber Q200 are a rolling cart and a cover. These are basic necessities to easily maneuver your grill and cook at an appropriate height when there are no tables. The Need to Read Reviews

February 4th, 2011

When people need to purchase a product, they’d rather choose the brands that are cheap but there are also others who don’t pay attention to the price as much as its reviews. This is a very good habit because no matter how much the price may look attractive and acceptable to you and your budget, sometimes the cheap product cannot offer you good and long support, especially when it is a product intended for seasonal use only. So, if you need to purchase a snowblower, it is a good recommendation to read snowblower reviews from each brand. There are more than one brand that you may find for snowblowers so considering that there are many options on how you would like to read reviews such as brand, posts, by best reviews, etc. No matter which option you choose, you may find lots of information, which could help in getting the best.

Save the Commute

January 23rd, 2011

No one likes the commute run to work. It is unproductive and, quite frankly, a waste of time. Time that could be spent doing the things you enjoy or time that could be spent with family.

More and more people are finding that either working for themselves or with the support of their employer, they are able to work from home. This could be part of the working week or, if you are lucky, the whole work week. This saves the cost of renting office space or saves the employer the cost of office space.

One of the downsides of working from home is that the home is full of distractions. This could be other family members, the cat or just unwanted noise like from televisions. To avoid these distractions, one solution is to work from a garden home office. These are timber buildings that are designed to look great in any space, be affordable, easy to build and offer an excellent bright, comfortable place to work. No distractions and yet close enough to home to pop back to the kitchen for lunch. Perfect.
